Hunt Visibility
Control who can discover and join your hunt
Visibility Options
When you create a hunt, you can choose how players discover and join it. Each visibility option is designed for different types of events.
Private Hunts
Private is the default visibility. Only players with your hunt code can join.
Best for:
- Birthday parties and family events
- Small group activities
- Any hunt where you control the guest list
- Hunts where you'll share the code directly with players
How players join:
- You share the 6-character hunt code with invited players
- Players enter the code at
app.treasurerat.com/join - Or scan a QR code you provide
Tip: Private hunts are perfect for most use cases. Start here unless you have a specific reason to use public visibility.
Public Hunts
Public hunts are optimized for events where many players join quickly, often via QR codes posted in public spaces.
Best for:
- Community events and festivals
- Museum or venue scavenger hunts
- Marketing campaigns with QR codes
- Events where you can't personally invite each player
Additional options for public hunts:
- Anonymous play: Players can join without entering a name
- Replay enabled: Players can play the hunt multiple times
- Geofencing: Restrict play to a specific location (e.g., within a park or venue)
- Time constraints: Limit when the hunt is available
Note: Public hunts don't support multiple tracks or teams. All players follow the same path. If you need teams, use a private hunt with invitations.
Changing Visibility
You can change your hunt's visibility at any time before publishing:
- Open your hunt in the editor
- Click "Settings"
- Find the "Visibility" section
- Select your preferred option
Tip: If you're unsure, start with Private. You can always change to Public later if needed.
