Sync Points
Make teams wait for each other at key moments
What are Sync Points?
A sync point is a checkpoint where teams must wait for other teams before continuing. When a team reaches a sync point, they see a waiting screen until the sync conditions are met.
Why Use Sync Points?
- Shared moments: Bring teams together for important reveals
- Dramatic tension: Build anticipation as teams wait
- Coordinated finales: Everyone finishes together
- Photo opportunities: Gather teams for group photos
- Fairness: Prevent one team from racing too far ahead
Creating a Sync Point
- Create or edit a clue in the hunt editor
- Toggle "Sync Point" to enable
- Select which tracks should sync together
- Choose a sync mode
- Optionally add a custom waiting message
- Save the clue
Note: Sync points only appear when your hunt has 2 or more tracks. Learn about tracks.
Sync Modes
Wait for All Teams
The most common mode. All selected teams must complete the clue before any can continue.
Example: Teams A, B, and C must all reach the sync point before any sees the next clue.
Wait for Any Team
Teams wait until at least one other team arrives. Once two teams are present, both can continue while others catch up.
Example: Good for checkpoints where you want teams paired up but not waiting for stragglers.
Timed Wait
Teams wait for a specified time, then automatically continue even if other teams haven't arrived. Useful for keeping the event moving.
Example: Teams wait up to 10 minutes for others, then continue regardless.
Selecting Tracks to Sync
You can choose which tracks participate in each sync point:
- All tracks: Every team in the hunt syncs together
- Specific tracks: Only selected teams sync (others continue freely)
This flexibility lets you create complex hunt structures where some teams sync while others don't.
Custom Waiting Messages
While teams wait, they see a customizable message. Use this to:
- Build excitement ("The final treasure awaits...")
- Give instructions ("Head to the pavilion when all teams arrive")
- Add story elements ("The vault requires all keys to open...")
Sync Point Placement Tips
- End of hunt: Most common - bring everyone together for the finale
- Mid-hunt checkpoint: Regroup teams before the second half
- Before reveals: Ensure everyone witnesses key moments together
- Physical gathering spots: Sync where teams can actually meet
Caution: Too many sync points can frustrate fast teams. Use sparingly for maximum impact.
What Teams See
When a team reaches a sync point:
- They complete the clue normally
- A waiting screen appears with your custom message
- Progress indicators show which teams have arrived
- Once sync conditions are met, all waiting teams proceed
Example: Treasure Hunt Finale
- Track A (Red Team): Final clue leads to the gazebo
- Track B (Blue Team): Final clue leads to the gazebo
- Both clues have a sync point with "Wait for All"
- Message: "The treasure chest requires both keys..."
- When both teams arrive, they're revealed the treasure location together!
