Answer Types
Text input and multiple choice options for clue answers
Overview
When creating a clue, you choose how players will provide their answer:
- Text Input - Players type their answer freely
- Multiple Choice - Players select from predefined options
Text Input Answers
Text input is the default answer type. Players type their answer, which is checked against your list of accepted answers.
Setting Up Text Answers
- Enter the correct answer in the "Accepted Answer" field
- Add alternative spellings or phrasings if needed
- Answers are case-insensitive (players can type "CLOCK" or "clock")
Tip: Add common misspellings or variations as accepted answers. For "elephant," also accept "elefant" or "an elephant."
Multiple Accepted Answers
You can add up to 20 accepted answers for a single clue. This is useful for:
- Different valid answers ("twelve" and "12")
- Common misspellings
- Answers with or without articles ("clock" and "a clock")
- Alternative correct responses
Multiple Choice Answers
Multiple choice presents players with 2-10 options to select from. One or more options can be marked as correct.
Setting Up Multiple Choice
- Select "Multiple Choice" as the answer type
- Add your choice options (2-10 choices)
- Mark which choice(s) are correct
- Options are displayed in the order you add them
Tip: Shuffle the correct answer's position - don't always make it the first option!
When to Use Multiple Choice
- For younger players who may struggle with spelling
- When there are clear, distinct answer options
- To make clues more accessible
- For trivia-style questions
Comparing Answer Types
| Feature | Text Input | Multiple Choice |
|---|---|---|
| Difficulty | Harder | Easier |
| Guessing possible | Unlikely | Yes |
| Spelling matters | Somewhat | No |
| Best for | Riddles, codes | Trivia, young players |
Best Practices
- Be generous with text answers: Add variations and common mistakes
- Test your answers: Try typing what players might enter
- Make multiple choice plausible: Wrong answers should be believable
- Mix it up: Use both types throughout your hunt for variety
Note: Location clues don't use answer types - players complete them by physically arriving at the location.
